the best thing that ever happened to me…

Although we are constantly teaching our children day to day, I have found that bringing up my children-over a span of 22 years- has also taught me quite a lot too. It’s a very strong saying “the best thing that ever happened to me”, but for many of us, having children can certainly be just that. Having children not only broadens your circle of friends but it also broadens your circle of knowledge and you become adept and wise about things you wouldn’t have dreamed about ‘sans’ children. I mean how many Mums can say they’ve learned the offside rule of footie- from spending years on the sideline watching their offspring play. I now know a topspin backhand from a forehand block in ping pong- and yes I know we can’t call it ping pong too!! Our organizational skills become unbeatable- I can drop Timmy off at Football, Jess off at brownies, do the weekly shop, wash two sets of uniforms and get back down the M25 to pick them up on time ( with healthy snacks to eat on the way home). We learn the art of coercion, bartering , counselling and putting together a picnic basket in 10 seconds flat with military precision. We learn to laugh at fart jokes, knock- knock jokes and look surprised every time we hear the wide mouth frog joke. So as well as teaching, let’s sit back and learn from our wonderful offspring too.
