When you really don't want to meet a Boy Band Member

Well who'd have thought that the underground movement of Table Tennis would attract so many famous people- not me that's for sure. The 13yr old- who is a bit of a dab hand with the old Ping Pong bat ( and yes I know NOT to call it Ping Pong), had to go to help out at his coaches openeing night of some Table Tennis club. So off I dutifully go, armed with magazines, wordsearches and a half ton of Satsumas to pass the time whilst he's 'knocking up'- yeah I know sounds rude doesn't it!! As we got into the car I did wonder why he was wearing a pretty smart shirt, his best jeans and about half a ton of hair wax, but just assumed the girls were going to be there. NW1 postcode entered into the satnav and off we go. As we neared the lively streets of Camden I began to get a little panicky, when we actually got to the place I began to physically tremble. We were only going to Gilgamesh, the place to be seen at the moment. Place where celebs and anyone who's anyone hangs out. And there's me in my too big a t-shirt, scruffy, tracksuit bottoms that have long since given up on any form of colour or shape, hair tied up in a lopsided ponytail and not a scrap of make-up on. On questioning why the 13yr old hadn't warned me about the venue he grunted "you look alright Mum, no-one's going to notice you anyway". Cheers love, another blow to the already flimsy veil of self-confidence I was attempting to summon up. So hastily tidying the ponytail, finding a bit of lip blam in the bottom of the bag and a half decent cardi in the boot of the car, in I went. Head down, don't look anyone in the eye and maybe, just maybe I might get in and out without being spotted. NOT ON YOUR NELLY girl!! I spent the next 2 hours being introduced to members of JLS, fit young footballers and TV soap stars, by the 13yr olds coach. Then when I finally managed to crawl away and hide at the bar I was drawn into a conversation by MR Emma Bunton, who raved about how gorgeous she was all the time and how even after just having had their second child was glowing!! Great, Thanks mate. So by the time I actually got to leave my unmade face, unkempt hair and scruffy looking clothes were in photos with boy band members and footballers. Wish I'd been a boy scout- Be Prepared!!
